CBISD Destruction of Special Education/504 Records
Special Education/504 records which have been collected by the Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District (CBISD) related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of Special Education in the district must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period of (7) years after the Special Education services have ended for the student. Special Education services end when the student no longer is eligible for services, graduated, completed his/her educational program at age 22 or moved from the district.
This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of CBISD; the district's intention to destroy the Special Education/504 records of students who are no longer receiving Special Education or 504 Services as of the end of the 2016-2017 school year. Request for copies must be received by Thursday, June 27, 2024. For more information, call 979-345-5147 ext 2550.
After seven (7) years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but they may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for Social Security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records in writing from the Special Programs department as the following address:
