District Counselors and Nurses

Reasons Why a Student Might Be Sent Home

  • Fever of 100.4 or over
  • Head Lice  Lice information (PDF)
  • Suspected contagious disease
  • Pink eye
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Injury which requires a doctor's attention

If your child has any of the above symptoms in the morning before coming to school, please keep her/him at home.  A student will not be sent home or taken home to be left alone.

Parents of students with communicable or contagious disease are asked to telephone the school nurse/principal so that other students who have been exposed can be alerted.  Your child may not be able to return to school until they have a note from the doctor or the child is no longer contagious.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL

PLEASE DO NOT SEND MEDICATION OF ANY KIND TO THE SCHOOL FOR YOUR STUDENT TO TAKE "ON HIS OWN".  A student who must take prescription (or non-prescription) medicine during the school day must bring a written request from his or her parent and the medicine, in its properly labeled original container, to the school nurse.  The nurse will give the medicine at the proper times in the amounts specified on the container or as per written doctor’s orders.  All medication must be kept in the nurse's office.

INSURANCE

Even with the greatest precautions and the closest supervision, accidents can and do happen at school.  They are a fact of life and a part of the growing-up process our children go through.  Parents need to be aware of this and be prepared for possible medical expenses that may arise should their child be injured at school.

The school district does not provide medical insurance to automatically pay for medical expenses when students are injured at school.  This is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardians.

The District will make a low-cost student accident insurance program available at the beginning of the school year.  Parents are responsible for paying premiums (if coverage is desired) and for submitting claims.  The District will not be responsible for costs of treating injuries or assume liability for any other costs associated with an injury
