The following is a list of local scholarships offered to the graduating seniors of CHS. Click Here to view and print the local scholarship application. All other applications may be picked up from Mrs. Weber in the Guidance Office. ABC Scholarship Student must be committed to a career in the
construction industry and plan to attend training through the merit shop
at Brazosport College American Chemical
Society - generic and club application
required. Must be outstanding chemistry
student and plan to major in chemistry or chemical
engineering. American Legion - Mattson
- Ringold Post 503 Ted Kay Memorial - $500 and Marcus Weems Memorial $500
Student must write an essay on the back of the application. Asa Underwood
Chapter-National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Must use
scholarship at Alvin or Brazosport College. Applicant must show
financial
need. Athletic Booster Club
“Charlie Brand Athletic” Student athlete graduating in 2008.
Parents or guardian must be an current member of the 2007-08 Booster Club.
Athlete must have 2.0 GPA or higher. Bob Barta Baseball –
generic application Must be a CHS
graduating senior baseball
player. Brazoria County
Beautician's Club - generic application Must be a graduating
senior
Brazoria County Fair
Association Graduating senior must have
competed in a fair sponsored competition for at least 2 years in high
school. Applicant and at least one parent or guardian must be a
member of the Brazoria County Fair
Association. Brazoria Heritage
Celebration annual essay contest - open to grades 9 - 12. A 500
word essay on about a person or place in Brazoria County Brazoria Lions
Club -
Graduating seniors Brazoria Men and Women of
Action Must have been enrolled and
attended CBISD public schools for at least two years prior to
graduation. Brazosport Area Roadrunners-
generic application - Student must be a graduating senior who has
participated in track or cross country. Need a letter of
recommendation from track coach. Brazosport A&M Club
- generic application Must be attending Texas A&M University.
Student must include a paragraph on the application explaining why they
want to attend A&M. Brazosport College -
Must be in the top 50% of your class planning to attend Brazosport College Brazosport Elks #2200 –
generic application Must be graduating
senior from CHS enrolling in degree plan beyond high
school. Brazosport Symphony
Orchestra Scholarship - A $500 scholarship will be awarded to an
eligible senior who demonstrates both exceptional talent in the musical
performing arts and excellence in scholastic achievement. Student
must have a B+ or better to apply. Billy Hibbs Saftey Award
and the Annie Ozella Jones Memorial Scholarship - generic application
$500 scholarship available to a 2008 graduate. Charlie Brown Alumni
Scholarship – generic application Must be an African-American
graduating senior with a 2.0 GPA CHS Spanish Club –
generic application Must be member of the
Spanish club with good
GPA. ConocoPhillips' Sweeny
Complex - Valued Partners Scholarship This award is a $1,000
scholarship for a graduating senior, holding a C average or better. Daughters of the Republic
of Texas - The applicant must be able to trace their lineage back to
the time of the Republic of Texas. The ancestor must have been in
the Republic prior to February 1846. Frank and Linda Burge
Scholarship - Student must be a graduating
senior planning to attend Sam Houston State University. Golf Performance
Scholarship - generic application This is a $500 scholarship for
boy and/or girl players dependent upon eligible and qualified applicants.
Students must have participated for two years on the district golf team
and be in good standing academically. Grandparent
Scholarship - generic application Student must write a short
essay on how their favorite grandparent influenced their life. Greenwood Memorial Fill
out application which is available in guidance office.
Gulf Coast Area
Association of School Boards - generic application 2 -
$250 Scholarships for 1 boy and 1 girl graduating in 2008. Joe Reyes Academic
Scholarship - Student must be a member of St. Joseph's Catholic
church, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and completed the three sacraments
prior to graduation. Lift Club - generic
application Lion’s Club of West Columbia - Must have attended CBISD for at least three semesters and be in the top 40% of the graduating class. Must be of good character and be recommended by a teacher, sponsor, counselor or principal. Students must attend the annual BBQ to receive the award. Three finalists will be announced.
Shock/Covington Scholarship = $1,000 Lone Star Bank Must
have a 3.5 GPA, 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher. Must have taken
ACT or
SAT. Prosperity Bank First

customers Republic Waste -
generic application You must be a senior in the top 1/2 of your class
with an interest in the environment. There are 2 $1,000 scholarships
given per school. St. John’s Masonic
Lodge – generic application Must be
senior with B+ average or better. Need two recommendation
letters from academic teachers and submit a written essay on
“Patriotism”. Texas A & M Mothers Club
Scholarship - generic application Must already be accepted to A & M Texas Dow Employees Credit
Union Must be a member of Dow
Credit Union and have a grade average of at least a
“C”. Student must pick up application at the Credit Union. Tim Hightower Texas
A & M Memorial Scholarship - generic application You must be a graduating
senior planning on attending Texas A&M Totally Devoted Christian
Workers Scholarship Fund Must be graduating senior of Brazoria County
and be willing to provide proof of income information. Must be a
member of a church with a letter of recommendation from your
pastor. Transportation Club of
Brazosport – Pick and application up in the guidance office. United Daughters of the
Confederacy Must be an American
Citizen and a descendant of a confederate soldier. Must use award at
a Texas college within one year of receiving
it. West Columbia Chapter #705
Order of the Eastern Star – generic application Must be graduating
senior girl from West Columbia with B+ or better GPA. Student must
furnish for committee: two teacher letters of recommendation; list
of school and civic organization participation and church
participation. Must write essay on “Patriotism Is More Important
Than
Ever”. West Columbia Rotary
Club – I. Noel Snow and J C Rogers,
student must be a resident
of CBISD and a member of the graduating class having completed a minimum
of four semesters at
