Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Code of Conduct

 Objective:         Develop and practice ethics to promote and protect the best interest of Columbia High School.

 Sponsors and Coaches will encourage students to:

  • Grow educationally, mentally, and physically.
  • Develop good sportsmanship, sound morals, and a superior work ethic.
  • Represent Columbia High School in a positive and dignified manner.
  • Develop pride in our school and communities.
  • Develop trust and confidence by practicing professional ethics.
  • Be positive role models and assume leadership roles in the school and community.
  • Strive for excellence in academics, athletics, and citizenship.
  • Take pride in appearance by practicing good grooming habits, proper hygiene, and appropriate dress to reflect a positive self-image.
  • Abide by all rules and regulations of Columbia High School, Columbia-Brazoria ISD, the University Interscholastic League, and society in general.

Columbia High School policies:

Ø      Profanity - Profanity will not be allowed.

Ø      Theft - Stealing from others will not be tolerated.

Ø      Conduct – Each participant is a direct reflection of the school, conduct yourself as a sportsman at all times. Follow all rules and procedures and act appropriately in class.  Show respects for staff and students at all times.

Ø      Respect – Disrespect will not be tolerated. Sponsors and coaches should receive respect from participants at all times.  Participants in turn will be treated with respect.

Ø      Trust – Trust between sponsors or coaches and participants is a must for success.  Participants must work hard to make sure this trust is not violated.

Ø      Attendance - Coaches and sponsors must be notified if a student will not be in attendance for a class, practice or event.

Ø      Dress - Proper attire will be worn and worn appropriately to and during all functions.

Ø      Eligibility may be lost due to major discipline problems.

Ø      Eligibility will be lost on the third In-School Suspension assignment during the days served.

Ø      Eligibility will be lost during the semester of an assignment to the District Alternative Education Program.

Ø      Students will not be allowed to miss any class they are currently failing to attend an activity or function.

Ø      Whether on or off campus, students will abide by all rules and regulations of Columbia High School, Columbia-Brazoria ISD, the University Interscholastic League, and society in general.

Ø      Whether on or off campus, students will represent Columbia High School in a positive and dignified manner.

Ø      Dismissal or quitting forfeits all rights, privileges, or honors earned or not yet received.  Including participation in the particular activity or any other.

Ø      Disciplinary action or suspension will be the result for failing to follow any of the above objectives, policies or guidelines.

Ø      Student clubs and performing groups such as the band, choir, and drill and athletic teams may establish standards of behavior—including consequences for misbehavior—that are stricter than those for students in general.  If a violation is also a violation of school rules, the consequences specified by the Student Code of Conduct or by local policy will apply in addition to any consequences specified by the organization.
