Hall of Honor

 

 

Purpose

 

The Columbia-Brazoria ISD Athletic Booster Club Hall of Honor honors individuals, establishes pride, and preserves the tradition of the CBISD athletic program by honoring those who have made a significant contribution to the athletic program in the Columbia-Brazoria ISD.

 

Award Categories

 

A member of the Athletic Hall of Honor can include:

 

  1. Athletes
  2. Coaches
  3. Teams
  4. Any other individual who has made a significant contribution to promote Columbia-Brazoria ISD athletics.

 

Requirements for Selection

 

The Athlete

 

Must be a graduate of Columbia High School/CBISD or have left school for an honorable reason that would not be detrimental to the image of Columbia High School.

 

Any person who has earned at least one varsity letter while attending Columbia High School/CBISD.

 

Must have graduated or left at least 5 years prior to selection to the Athletic Hall of Honor.

 

Must have demonstrated a distinguished achievement in athletics.

 

Although athletic achievement while attending Columbia High School/CBISD is prime importance, post graduate accomplishments will also be a factor in the selection.

 

The Coach

 

Must have demonstrated an unusually high degree of success relative to the same sport.  (Coaching can be as a head or assistant coach at the high school or junior high level)

 

Success in the program is not necessarily measured by wins and losses but may be determined by the degree of respectability given the person or program by other people.

 

Preferably has coached the same sport for more than five full seasons and has not left the sport or Columbia High School/CBISD for reasons detrimental to the image of the school.

 

Is eligible for the athletic Hall of Honor upon retirement from coaching.

 

 

 

 

 

The Team

 

Any team that has been graduated for a least a period of five years and achieved recognition at a national, state, or district level or has been a dominate team during its period of competition will also be eligible for induction into the Columbia-Brazoria ISD Athletic Booster Club Hall of Honor.

 

The Contributor

 

Any other individual who has made a significant contribution to Columbia High School/CBISD athletics.

 

Contributions could include but are not limited to:

 

  1. Long periods of support and service to the athletic department.
  2. Severe disability or death as a result of athletic participation.
  3. Sportswriter/Sportscaster

Anyone may submit a completed nomination form to the CBISD Athletic Booster Club for consideration.  All nominations will remain on file for a period of 5 years from the last nomination and after that time period is up must be re-nominated.

 

Nominations will be accepted yearly during August and September.  The people that are nominating individuals shall inform those individuals of their nomination and shall be responsible for gathering information on their past accomplishments.  They will be responsible for meeting the deadlines set up by the committee.  There will be a minimum of 1 and maximum of 5 inductees each year.

 

Selection Committee

 

The selection committee will be approved yearly by the officers of the CBISD Athletic Booster Club.  All current members of the CBISD Athletic Hall of Honor are permanent members of the selection process.

Distribute nomination forms and questionnaires – August and September

Deadline for nominations – September 19th

HOH Selection committee meets – September 22nd

Select and inform HOH recipients - September

Complete information for plaques and media - October

Order plaques and awards - October

Announce award winners to the public - October

Columbia-Brazoria Athletic Booster Club Hall of Honor Nomination Criteria

 

A nomination for induction into the Columbia-Brazoria ISD Athletic Booster Club Hall of Fame may be submitted by any Alumni or friend of Columbia High School.  A nominee must meet the criteria in one of the following categories:

 

  • Athletic and Personal Achievement:  A former Columbia Athletic who performed with excellence and lettered in Varsity sport.  Must be a graduate and out of school for at least ten (10) years.  Nominees must be, or have been a credit to his/her Family, Country, and Columbia.  The inductee may be either living or deceased.
  • Coaches:  A Nominee must have been a coach within the Columbia-Brazoria ISD system for minimum of ten (10) years and who has distinguished himself/herself by demonstrating exceptional leadership, character and athletic achievement during his/her stay at Columbia.  The inductee may be either living or deceased.
  • Special Award:  A person who has been loyal and devoted supporter of Columbia Athletic for a minimum of ten (10) years.  The inductee may be either living or deceased.
