Columbia Roughneck Bands successful at the

UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest

The Symphonic Band under the direction of Fred Meyer received a Superior (1) rating in the concert portion and an Excellent (2) rating in the sightreading room. The Wind Ensemble under the direction of Randy Marble received straight Superior (1) ratings from all three judges in the concert and sightreading contests. This combined with the straight 1's earned at marching contest gives the Roughneck Band a SWEEPSTAKES for the third consecutive year.

Congratulations students!!!

Here is how to record and turn in your playoff assignments:

Download free "Audacity" software at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Audacity works is a digital recorder...it works like a tape recorder. You will need a microphone connected to your computer to record your assignment. Push the RED button to begin recording. When you finish, press the brown square to stop recording. Then click "File>Export as mp3 " and save the mp3 file of your assignment to your computer. You made need the plug-in called "lame.dll" which is available here http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3

Access your "Charms" account.

1. Go to www.charmsmusic.com

2. Where it says "Parent/Student Login" for the school code put CBISDBands

3. For "Student ID/Password" put in your school ID number. If you are a senior it is your Social Security number; if you are Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior it is a 5 digit number beginning with 9. After you put in your number, press "Enter."

4. Click on the icon named "Audio Files" and browse for the mp3 file you saved on your computer. Tell me what it is that you are sending, and press upload. Your playoff file will now be on "Charms" and I can get it and listen to it.

If you can't get this to work, you have the option to record at school.

If you need to record at school, just tell your section leader and they will help you. Then save your file to a flash drive and I will transfer it to my computer to grade.

NEW "CHARMS" SOFTWARE

The CBISD bands are now using the "Charms" software to manage information on all band students and to provide information for parents of band students. Currently, only the high school band students are listed...junior high and elementary students will be added in August.

WE NEED YOU TO UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION...here's how:

You should have the number on your last report card.

4. Once you are into the program, look around. I especially want you to go to "Student Info" and update your information for you and your parents. Make sure you click on the "update" button after you change information.

We will be using this Charms software for band information this year. I can make assignments, post forms and music and mp3s, put up the calendar, and you can see how much money is in your accounts, and other things. Please check it often!
