Senate Bill 19 requires that the board of trustees of each school district establish a local School Health-Education Advisory Council to assist the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district’s health education curriculum and instruction. 

A majority of the members must be persons who are parents of students enrolled in the district and who are not employed by the district. The board of trustees should appoint persons from the following groups: 1. public school staff
2. students
3. health care professionals
4. business community
5. law enforcement
6. senior citizens
7. clergy
8. nonprofit health organizations
 

Meetings will be held at least once a year and should last about 1 hour. 
Topics of discussion include: 
reviewing an integrated health and food program, curriculum and scope for health education.
